The Barolo region can be most easily reached from Turin (a 1 hour drive) or Milan (a 2 hour drive). I personally prefer flying in to either Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) or Turin Airport and renting a car to make the drive – that way I avoid the crazy city traffic inside the big cities, and I always pass by some beautiful countryside and the Po River along the way!
Alternately, you can take a train to Alba (20 minutes north of Barolo) or Asti (30 minutes north of Barolo) and rent a car there. Alba and Asti also make for great places to base yourself while exploring the Langhe region, and are fun to visit in their own right, with their medieval town centers and world renowned restaurants like Piazza Duomo.
Regardless of how you get there, the beautiful countryside dotted with vineyards and Medieval castles, excellent cuisine, friendly people, amazing hiking and biking opportunities, and of course the Barolo wine are all reasons you should start booking a trip to the Langhe region!
